Purpose
The Contaminated Site Safety Certificate (CSSC) course has been designed in partnership with ALGA and WasteMINZ to enable employers to meet their duties as a PCBU for personnel who engage in works on contaminated sites: Specifically, clause 36(3)(f) of the Act, the requirements of regulation 9 and 17(2) of the Health and Safety at Work (General Risk and Workplace Management) Regulations 2016, and regulation 4.5 of the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017
Aim
The aim of the course is to train learners to look for, recognise and safely control for hazards and risk on a contaminated sites.. People credited with this certificate have the knowledge to operate safely on a contaminated site.
Outcomes
You can claim 15 CPD points by attending this course the first time. There are plans to develop an annual refresher for this course; the content and available CPD points have yet to be determined.

Course Duration
One Day
Course Objectives
- Explain their responsibility to look for, identify and control for hazards and risks on an actual or potentially contaminated site
- Identify the health risks of a number of contaminants they may find on a contaminated work site
- Identify appropriate controls to minimise the risks of a number of contaminants they may find on a work site
- Don appropriate PPE, and remove it safely (without cross contamination), and decontaminate tools and equipment
- Create a procedure, including the selection of appropriate PPE, to safely sample a contaminated site in context of a HSEP
- Respond safely to discovering an unexpected contaminant
- Respond appropriately to a site emergency.
Entry Criteria
Trainee must already be inducted in employer procedures and be a member of ALGA or WasteMINZ. Refer to following links
